The Big Root

The Big Root

I met my friend Susan McCormac when I first moved to New York in 2016, and when I had the idea for a podcast about “everywhere Japaneseness,” we created The Big Root. Just as the root vegetable daikon (“big root”) is ubiquitous in Japanese cuisine, the podcast highlights that Japanese influence permeates across geographical boundaries. With the release of its first season in 2019, we feature stories of individuals who represent Japanese community, business, and culture in New York and beyond.
